I think that many of us have a false misconception of the word selfish.
We believe that if we put ourselves last, honour others, disconnect from what nourishes us we are being a martyr and a “good person”. We are being of service to others above ourselves.
But how is that truly a good thing?
We say that we cannot follow our true passions because that’s selfish.
We can’t ask for what we want because it’s selfish.
We can’t make all the money we desire because that’s taking money from other people who are poor.
Selfish in this case implies that by giving ourselves more we take from others. We are setting a bad example.
It couldn’t be farther from the truth.
We are of no service to anyone when we are depleted, exhausted, cranky, overweight, unhappy at work and stingy with our gifts.
Who am I to do what I love?
Who am I to shine so brightly that others are blinded by my light?
Well who are you NOT to?
“What if selfish, rather, meant being of the highest and truest service to all? Because from a place of self-love and self-nurturing you are full, abundant, feeling exuberant and ready to share all of your gifts, your love, your body, your light with others who could really use it?
Who are you NOT to be “selfish” then and to be the best version of yourself so you can serve humanity to its fullest potential … as a mother, professional, writer, author, artist, coach, practitioner, lover, daughter, sister, friend and fellow human being on this planet?
We are all connected.
We are all one.
By giving yourself permission to be at your best possible, you uplift us all.
The contrary is also true.
So wouldn’t it be more amazing to love yourself up, go after your dreams and have a blast in the process?
Isn’t it time to reframe selfish and what’s possible?
Self-care has a massive ripple effect on the planet. When we care for ourselves, we are also caring for others because we become the best version of ourselves and can be of highest service in the process.
What would you have to release in order to feel comfortable owning your desires and living life your own way?
Your homework for this week: do 1 thing that would ordinarily feel selfish to you. Then hop on over to the blog and share what that was like for you!
