Last week I attended a powerful conference by business mentor Kelly Fidel called No Glass Ceiling.
As someone new to San Diego, it was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with likeminded, kick-ass entrepreneurs to get re-inspired and learn new material.
The conference didn’t disappoint.

Here are some key takeaways I wanted to share with you:
1. Fail forward: Speaker and Billionaire Com Mazir shared with us how his first 8 consecutive businesses failed miserably. How sheer faith, grit and willpower got him through some terrible times including borrowing (then owing) money to everyone he knew and still not giving up on himself. He later failed at 20 consecutive venture capital deals only to now be an expert in the field. While he still admits that he probably fails more than he wins, when he does win, it makes all the failures worthwhile.
Bottom line: Learn from your mistakes and don’t let the fear of failure stop you.
A ninja tip when you do “fail”: Com shared that when he does fail, he writes down his top goals for the year over and over to get his focus back on what’s important so he looks ahead not behind. Don’t let the past dictate your future.
2. Invest in yourself and your future: Com Mazir reminded us to build a business that covers our lifestyle expenses so that we can invest the rest of our money into our dreams and our future and more importantly our LEGACY.. We mapped out where our expenses went (life and business) and then rearranged them to fit our goals for the future.
Bottom line: we can be smart with our money no matter where we are in our life. The time is now. What 1 step can you take this week to own your money and build your wealth?
3. Live your values: A very inspiring speaker Dr. Betty Uribe shared with us how transformative life can be when we live our life in full integrity with our values. She knows them so well she recited them multiple times, in order, so we knew how she made all of her decisions. This woman had soul and willingly asked us how she could set aside time to support us in our missions to leave the world a better place. She is passionate about legacy and has a very clear goal to give over 100 scholarships per continent to women leaders. How cool is that?
Bottom line: get clear on your values and start living by them. Also, be generous with your time, your knowledge and your gifts and pay it forward. You can make a difference in someone’s life right now.
4. Know your why: We were reminded that we are here not only to make good money (nothing wrong with that) but to also be “Contribution Entrepreneurs”. That means that we are here to leave the world a better place with our gifts. When we know who we are, what we stand for and our true motivation for getting up in the world (beyond money), we stay inspired and excited about life and burn out and less likely
Bottom line: Get clear on your why in business and lead with your mission in your conversations and in your marketing.
5. Be in community: It takes a village to grow a business. Being in a room of motivated 6 and 7 figure earners from multiple industries from trucking to internet marketing to coaching was inspiring to say the least. One woman went from $50k in debt to a multiple 6 figure business in one year. She got into a mastermind and didn’t look back. Your environment matters and this includes the physical environments in which you hang out.
Bottom line: Join a community (or a few ) of likeminded individuals that will hold you accountable to your vision and support you in achieving your dreams.
6. Be visible: There are amazing people right in your backyard waiting to meet you, support you and with whom you can collaborate. The question is, are you putting yourself out there? Every day in the US there are over 5,000 events to attend. Go out, connect, touch someone and share your gifts. You’ll feel a whole lot more inspired, build your confidence and likely get new business as well.
Bottom line: get out there and connect with likeminded colleagues.
