Hello there!

I have so much to tell you today so please hold tight until the end of this newsletter. I promise you that it will be worth the wait including juicy new photos of me, an opportunity to check out my new online “digs” (i.e. my brand new website!) and a couple of amazing offers for you!

Now let’s get started!

This week I finally fulfilled on a bucket list dream: to do a Boudoir shoot.

A colleague had first suggested it to me almost 3 years ago but I wasn’t really ready to act on the impulse until now. An eventful birthday, such as my 40th, coming up in two weeks, gave me the added dose of courage I needed to finally make this happen.

There was a rush of emotions running through me from the moment I booked the shoot.

I was scared, excited, critical and curious. And then the few days leading up to the shoot last week – there was a LOT of self-doubt, self-inquiry and anticipation.

Even as I walked over to the studio, I had all the “good” reasons NOT to do this:

  • I wanted to lose another 10 pounds.
  • This was a frivolous and impractical expense.
  • What if I looked stupid and unlike myself?
  • What if I hated my photos?
  • What if I got too full of myself and my friends and other women hated me for doing this?
  • What if I was harshly judged?
  • This wasn’t a “smart” investment. I didn’t need to do this. Rather, I should be spending my money and time “better” (i.e. easier to justify to myself ways) and finally…
  • This was vain…. and I’m not comfortable being seen as “vain”.

It never escaped my mind for a moment, in the weeks and months leading up to the shoot, that I didn’t look pretty, skinny or gorgeous enough for the camera. Plus, what if a big zit appeared right smack on my face the day of the shoot or my eyes were red and blood shot from staring at the computer way too many hours or I hated my hair and make-up? My sweet vanity was operating at warp speed.

Then halfway along the waiting period I said “F—k” it.

I am the way I am and I want to experience my beauty at the size and shape that I am NOW: lumps, bumps, rolls and all. This was going to be BIG (gulp!).

Similarly to you, I have an ideal of what beautiful needs to looks like for me. It goes something like this: 120 pounds, toned, clear, radiant skin, round, firm butt, shiny golden hair. You get the picture.

Yeah, well that’s not me. I could have chosen to diet and deprive myself but rather I chose a more loving and accepting route, to see the beauty in what I looked like now. Why deprive myself of that gorgeous and loving opportunity? Plus I wanted to see what gorgeous looked like in this body, in this shape, NOW.

The truth is that I have many imperfections and yet the beauty of my soul is perfect – just like yours. So I chose a Boudoir photographer here in NYC who I knew would capture the true essence and the soulfulness of me.

She did an awesome job.

My photographer, Laura, has a gorgeous closet full of beautiful lingerie, costume jewelry, and I went to town. I tried on all sorts of girly underwear, I put on 5 inch heels that sparkled and even a garter, for the first time ever. It was so LUXURIOUS, SENSUAL and EMPOWERING.

Even up until then, I doubted if I would be “the only girl” that would look awful in all her photos and have visible proof that she wasn’t pretty and would therefore regret her rather impetuous decision.

Then Sasha the makeup artist and hairstylist showed up.

My request: BOMBSHELL all the way, baby.

And that was what I got: fiery red lipstick, fake eyelashes and sexy, wavy bedroom hair.

They all matched perfectly with my tomato red nail polish and squeaky clean face.

Now was the time to allow myself to see the beauty that was within me now. I am both the before AND the after shot – equally.

The truth is that we are both sides of the coin:

  • Naughty and nice
  • Frumpy and sexy
  • Gorgeous and plain
  • The vixen and the virgin
  • Goddess and Temptress

That’s what’s so exciting about being a woman. There are endless sides to us.

We are ALL of these women. Like Chaka Khan says in her song “I’m EVERY woman, it’s ALL in me.”

The truth is that who we are at any given moment is who we CHOOSE to be. Our beauty is always within us, we get to choose if we allow ourselves to see it and embrace it – or not.

As with anything in life, I got to choose how the experience would go down for me.

We took a before shot to document the transformation to come.

For a while I wondered if I was making a mistake.

Who was I kidding having a pretty woman moment? In my mind I was telling myself that the glamourous Priscilla “wasn’t the real me.” But after I looked at the proofs I had, in fact, undeniable proof that this IS me – too!

So who do I believe is the REAL me? Who do I choose to be MORE OF moving forward?

The truth is that beauty is what we CHOOSE at any given moment. We just often choose a default persona that feels safe for us and the status quo.

Eventually, I surrendered to the process and with each wardrobe and set change, I felt surprisingly more alive and like myself than I’d felt in a long time. In fact, afterwards, I felt almost as good as after a sexual interlude.

I really felt IN my body, EMBODIED. I was owning ALL of me and my feminine energy and feminine power. It was so awesome!

Being that way felt so effortless: like butter skidding on a hot skillet.

So who was I really? The frumpy before picture or the glamorous, gorgeous after?

In reality I am both.

I have just been more comfortable in the before shot.

That was the whole purpose of this exercise.

To get more comfortable embodying my sexy, feminine, powerful side. The one I had disowned so long ago in the name of safety and security.  I embodied hot, soulful bombshell Priscilla as naturally as sliding on a pair of silk gloves.

She is a part of me.

Seeing the proofs right after the shoot blew me away.  Wow. That was me. I looked strong, soulful, happy and more importantly a WOMAN.

You see my default archetype as I call it is the “sweet one”. The easy to like, eager to please, don’t ruffle feathers woman.

I had been afraid to let my inner bombshell come out and own her space.

I gave her a safe space and she came out to play!

So WHY did I do the shoot? Because I thought I wasn’t “the kind of girl that could or would do it.”

Plus, it was time and I was ready to OWN my SEXY. I was also curious. It had been 3 years since my last professional shoot, and I wanted to see on camera the external changes that had resulted from the incredible inner work I have done in the last 3 years.

My verdict:

Boudior2

I AM beautiful.

I am SO PROUD of who I am and who I continue becoming.

Owning my sexy also allowed me to own my value even more – the value of being a confident, beautiful woman all the way – warts and all.

I gave myself permission to own my sexy and in so doing, you get to do the same for yourself.  We get to be leaders for other women to follow.

If there is a part of you that is currently judging or naysaying this post, take a moment to ask yourself why that is. What part of you are you afraid to embrace? If you judging me or feeling triggered, remember that I am only a mirror for you.
It’s my firm belief today, having gone through this experience that when we own our bodies now, we get to fully own and be a leader in our own lives. When we hide behind and in our bodies, we are equally hiding out from life.

All this brings me to the other BIG main reason I did this shoot: to come out of hiding.

For women who have felt unsafe in their bodies and disconnected from them, we hide out behind our weight.

We stay invisible. We stay in the sidelines. We stay in our default M.O. because it’s safe and predictable.

But no more.

I DARE YOU!

It’s time for you too to come out and play and to BE SEEN IN THE WORLD FOR WHO YOU REALLY ARE: A beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent woman.

And if you don’t think you’re the “kind of woman who does such a thing” then I DOUBLE DARE YOU. This is precisely the reason for you to consider doing a shoot like this and to step into your spotlight and to SHINE BRIGHTLY in the world.

We NEED you.

The world NEEDS YOU.

You are gorgeous.

Why can’t you or don’t you see it?

The degree to which we are willing to be visible and shine our light is directly proportionate to the degree of financial and spiritual abundance that we have in our lives.

Weight and body hang-ups keep us safe.

They also keep us trapped in a cage of fear, insecurity and soul crushing work and unnecessary struggle.

For me, the primary reason that I wasn’t making the level of impact I wanted to make in the world was a visibility block.

I was terribly afraid of being seen – and judged. So I stayed safely and predictably behind my laptop screen: safe, alone, disconnected from real conversations with people.

No more. This year I am coming out of the closet in more ways than one and the more imperfect the better.  Screw perfectionism. What is perfect anyway?

The PRESENT is the current moment where we get to appreciate and experience the fullness of life.

It’s time to stop waiting on the weight, wearing clothes that don’t represent who you are in the world and where you’re going.

It’s time for you to come out and play, to share your gifts and make your mark on the world.  If you are on my email list I know you crave this for yourself too and maybe there is Boudoir shoot in your future too.
