I entered 2016 knowing it was going to be a big year of personal growth.
Truthfully, there is a lot under the surface coming up to be healed, understood and transformed in both my personal and business life.
After weeks of having very real emotional ping pong matches in my head and in my heart, I knew I needed help.
My judgment was too clouded to think clearly.
It was time to take another leap into my personal growth and healing.
And last week I hired a relationship coach/therapist.
I felt scared, nervous but above all a sense of relief. I didn’t have to figure it all out by myself.
But alas, when I shared my desire to hire professional help, some of my friends made me question my choice to “hire yet another coach”.
At first I was surprised and then upset.
But if anything, it reinforced my ability to trust myself.
Not because I cannot be self-reliant but because I know the times when I’ve reached my personal limit and when outside help can speed up my process, give me the clarity I need and ease my pain.
And it got me to thinking about you.
When things get tough, do you trust yourself to know when to reach out for help or do you try to “tough things out” on your own?
Do you see asking for help as a sign of weakness or a sign of strength?
Pause for a moment and really think about this.
Go back to a time when you were really hurting and you “toughed it out”.
Then go back to a time when you received support and it made all the difference.
Did having support make your life/situation easier or harder?
Of course support doesn’t only have to be a professional coach, teacher or mentor. It can be from a spouse, a friend, a co-worker or even a stranger on the plane who offers to help you put your luggage in the overhead compartment.
When the opportunity arises for you to receive support, do you extend your hand out or do you duck?
A key part of living our dreams is trusting ourselves with our decisions to ask for help and WHEN to ask for it.
If you’ve been spinning your wheels for weeks and even months and doing it yourself just hasn’t yielded the shifts you need, I invite you to see where support can help you.
And, if you don’t know if you should get help now or not, here are some questions to help you figure it out:
1. What’s causing you significant pain in your life right now?
For example: whether to stay/leave a relationship. How to make more money in your business? How to create a new website? How to lose weight and love your body again.
2. Have you actively tried to solve these problems by yourself? If so, for how long?
3. Do you think that doing it alone will create the shifts that you really are looking for? Please be honest here.
4. If the answer above was no, who do you think is best equipped to help you solve it? I.e. what results or different outcomes are you desiring.
5. How committed are you to making a change?
6. What’s the emotional, physical and financial cost to you of staying stuck where you are? Again, be honest with yourself.
7. When you’re ready, are you willing to ask for referrals and to trust yourself with making the right hire for you?
Remember there is no shame in asking for help.
In fact, I’d dare say that it’s incredibly gutsy.
Asking for help is one of the most courageous acts of self-love we can give ourselves via @sweetpathgirl {clicktotweet}
Next week I travel to Phoenix for a 2 day Intensive with my business coach to work on the soul of my business and the deep stirrings I’ve been having to help people not only live their sacred dreams but to live with SOUL.
I have no qualms in saying that I am a person who loves to work with coaches and mentors. And I’ve been chastized for that at times and judged myself for not being “stronger” to do it all on my own.
But I also trust that when I cannot see clearly for myself, that it really helps to have the support of an experienced professional to help you get where you want to go.
So if you’ve been looking for support in a key area of your life and it feels light to do so, take the leap and receive the help you desire.
You’re worth it.
