Dear Sweet One,
I was talking to a colleague this weekend about our lives and businesses and midway through the conversation she asked me, Priscilla:
“Have you been savoring your days lately?”
After a short pause I said “yes I have actually.”
The truth is that up until recently, if she’d asked me that question, I would have had to say no.
My first couple of years in business were all about plowing ahead. The race for the “6 figures”, financial security and peace of mind came at a huge cost: putting all other aspects of my life on hold. It wasn’t fun.
I worked almost every weekend and when I wasn’t actively working, I was totally thinking about work.
I worked late into the night and often 12-15 hour days.
I had an almost non-existent social life and definitely no romantic life to speak of.
Then last year I realized I just wasn’t happy.
What was I doing all of this for if I wasn’t happy in the moment?
What did it matter if I made “x” figures, landed a big client, was “living the dream” blah, blah, blah if I wasn’t truly fulfilled?
Then it hit me: I had stopped living my life.
Like many business owners, I had put my own joy on hold for a later date (i.e. “some day:).
But what if “some day: never came or I didn’t live long enough until this imaginary and illusive “some day” arrived?
I wanted to have FUN NOW.
I wanted to feel happy, NOW.
Thankfully, I had an “aha” moment where I decided that a life, without LIVING IT, had no meaning to me.
A life without joy and fulfillment today isn’t a life worth living via @sweetpathgirl. {tweet it}
What’s the purpose of chasing something without enjoying each and every day which is a PRESENT?
All miracles, progress and opportunities happen in the present moment.
Tomorrow’s victories and joys happen today.
So today is where it is all at.
It’s about being PRESENT in the moment.
This means having a laugh with your family over dinner time; cuddling on the sofa with your significant other or pet; going to the movies midday just because you can; going out dancing even when you’re scared and saying yes to a date.
Savoring means appreciating what’s already here.
Savoring means having gratitude for all the blessings we have and CELEBRATING all that we ARE accomplishing today.
It means saying YES and THANK YOU more often.
We often mistake the joy we get from getting things done as enough. The truth is that getting sh** done is rewarding but there’s more to life than just that. There’s an endless rainbow of possibilities and magic out there in the world to be felt and experienced.
This weekend a mentor of mine said that “time is EMOTION.”
I thought that was brilliant.
We’ve all been in situations where a minute can feel like an eternity and a day can just whisk by. It all depends on the emotion (and fulfillment) we get from it.
So how we FEEL about the time we spend in our business and in our lives, makes all the difference in the world.
It’s not the days in our life that count but the life in our days via @sweetpathgirl. {tweet it}
So, as you go about your days and weeks, ask yourself how you can FEEL better about HOW you are accomplishing your desires.
The journey can and ought to FEEL AS GOOD as the destination.
That in my book is TRUE FULFILLMENT… and SUCCESS.
DESIRE WORK: How can you savor your day a little more today? What would give you great joy? What tweak can you make to your day so you enjoy it even more and perhaps, even get MORE done in less time? I can’t to hear about it on the blog.
To your sweet success,
